Seafarers should familiarize themselves with the boat they’ll be working on. But is it best to do this in a traditional way by going around, or is it better, safer and more efficient and do this in a HSE training simulator? Students were wearing eye tracking glasses, that record how participants orient themselves. By analyzing this data it is possible to see if there is any difference between the two groups that have had virtual Health & Safety training and traditional HSSEQ familiarization.
Getting to Know the Vessel
Stord/Haugesund University College News
“We have conducted an experiment onboard Edda Fauna with students from Karmsund Maritime College. Half of the students performed traditional vessel familiarization onboard, while the other half used the Health & Safety training simulator. The conclusion is that the two forms of offshore safety training and vessel familiarization are equally good”, says Anders Østrem.
